Philadelphia Continues To Dominate The Sports World, Soul Headed To ArenaBowl

Here you were thinking that we’re in the dog days of summer. Here you were thinking that we are in the sports hell that is August. Here you were thinking that Philadelphia sports bring on nothing but sorrow and disappointment.

You’ve never been more wrong in your entire life. Because the Philadelphia Soul are about to bring this city back to the top of the world like we were in 1776. Philadelphia’s winningest team since 2004 is heading back to the ArenaBowl for the first time since 2013. The team that won the championship in 2008 has themselves another shot at greatness after edging out the Jacksonville Sharks yesterday in the American Conference Championship game. A game that featured a fat guy touchdown for the ages.

I mean, it’s gotten to the point where I don’t even watch regular season Arena Football League games. Just let me know when the playoffs start because I know my boys on the Soul are going to take care of business. But I guess that’s just how life is in Philadelphia. You win so much and so often that it almost takes some of the joy out of it. I’m not asking you all to feel bad for us in Philly. By no means should you do that. But when you have the Philadelphia Spinners winning the Major League Ultimate championship in July and then the Soul about to win another Championship in August, well you just get used to your winning ways.  I envy cities like Cleveland who literally had no idea what winning felt like until this past year. There’s still some excitement to it. It’s such a fresh and new feeling. I’m not complaining about Philly always dominating the sports world, I’m just saying that the Champion Life ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. It’s not all parades and parties. Being the City of Champions is a grind at this point.

The Soul will play the Arizona Rattlers on August 26 in the ArenaBowl. If they lose, I will be deleting this blog immediately and going back to pretending the AFL doesn’t exist.
